Today we're taking a look at the meaning of oukthy, a term often heard between Muslim sisters, and for good reason: it contains the meaning of an inexplicable bond. We'll tell you all about it right here.
The meaning of oukthy in Arabic
Of course, it's worth pointing out that this Arabic word means "sister" (or "my sister") and what's more, it carries the meaning of a bond oflove and brotherhood. It is a term of great significance, reflecting an inestimable bond of immense sentimental value. In fact, this term can also refer to a fraternal blood relationship. But the meaning of oukthy can also represent the bond uniting believers in Islam. As a result, it encompasses a form of behaviour that is associated with this precious bond that must be preserved.
The importance of the bond between oukthy
In fact, it is absolutely important in our religion to maintain merciful and benevolent behaviour, particularly between sisters. Whether it's the bond of blood or the bond in Allah, of course. Indeed, Allah tells us in the close translation of the meanings of verses 10 and 11 of Sura Al Hujurat:
"The believers are but brothers. Establish harmony between your brothers, and fear Allah, so that you may be shown mercy. O you who have believed! Let not one group mock at another: they may be better than they are. And do not let women mock other women: they may be better than they are. Don't denigrate each other or call each other names. What an ugly word 'perversion' is when one already has faith" (Al Hujurat 10-11).
It is clearly evident that the relationship between brothers (akhi) and sisters (oukthy) must be absolutely preserved and cherished. And we find this importance in the Sunnah of our beloved prophet, of course.
The meaning of oukthy: evidence of the importance of this bond in the Sunnah
As we were saying, between oukthy, we must ensure that we behave towards others in the same way as we would like to behave towards ourselves. And this is exactly what our beloved prophet enjoined upon us.
Indeed, the Prophet said: "No one will be a true believer until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself", and in another version: "until he loves for his neighbour what he loves for himself".
We must therefore take care to preserve ties. Whether they be kinship or fillah. And good behaviour is essential for this. Sisters must therefore spread smiles, kindness, benevolence, helpfulness and good humour among themselves. And what's more, this has great merit.
The merit of maintaining ties between oukthy
The Prophet informed us that there are seven categories of people who will be protected from the Shadow of Allah on the day when there will be no shadow but His. And among these is the case of two men who love each other in Allah. In addition, the fillah sisters or fillah brothers will be with those they have loved on the Day of Resurrection. Finally, the Prophet said: "Allah, to Him be power and glory, has said: "Those who love each other in My Majesty will have chairs (manâbir: Tribune) in light that will be the envy of the Prophets and the martyrs".
